choosing a Flatscreen Tv

Plasma Tvs and Lcd Tvs (flat screen Tvs) may look similar, but there are differences in features and technology that can be the choosing factor when you come to select your new Tv. Flatscreen Tvs are luxury items and a are a major buy for most of us, so it helps to be well informed.

Screen Size vs Room Size

Hdtv 720p

Flat screen Tvs come in distinct sizes, so how big should you go? It's tempting just to buy the biggest one you can afford, but this may not be the wisest option. Room size and furniture layout should decide the optimal Tv screen size, not your personal taste. Most people would think that the bigger the room, the bigger the Tv. The key to looking out the best size of Tv for your room is to measure the length between where the Tv will be positioned and where your seating is. Obviously, a 19" screen will seem tiny in a large room, but if your chairs are within four or five feet of the Tv, you will still have a good viewing experience. Also, larger Tvs have wider viewing areas. Flat screen Tvs are best viewed head on, as the photograph washes out when viewed at an angle. So if you have some seating at an angle to the Tv, a larger screen is the best choice. Before you buy, jot down measurements of viewing length and room size. A good showroom salesperson will be able to recommend the right screen size for you.

Plasma or Lcd

There are two types of flat screen Tv: plasma and Lcd. Both produce very high ability pictures, and both have pros and cons, so it helps to be informed about what each has to offer. Plasmas are the kings of size. The smallest plasma Tv is 42", which may be too big for some rooms, and (at the time of writing) go up to an improbable 150", although this is not a industrial model. The screen contains phosphors which produce light. This gives a very attractive photograph that has a film-like quality, rich, natural colours, and very clear operation sequences. Plasma Tvs are also prone to "burn in". If an image is static on the screen for too long, it will burn into the screen forever. However, new technologies exist to decrease and forestall this. Plasma screens are more reflective than their Lcd counterparts and reflect room lights, so if you opt for a plasma Tv, consider rearranging your lighting. If you watch a lot of movies, then a plasma will give a best ability picture, even from wider viewing angles.

Although they are brighter, Lcd Tvs do not have the same photograph clarity as plasmas, but they are catching up. They are thinner, lighter (better for wall mounting) and more power sufficient than plasma Tvs, and are also quieter, as they don't wish a fan for cooling. If your room can't adapt a large screen Tv, then Lcd is the best option, as they come in sizes beginning at 19". Lcd Tvs aren't affected by air pressure which means the photograph will stay true at higher altitudes. The "burn in" that affects plasma Tvs isn't an issue with Lcds. This means they are best suited to playing video games or Tv programmes which have scrolling tickers. A downside is that sometimes during fast operation scenes, the photograph can pixellate, although manufacturers are addressing this.

Confusing Terms Explained

It's easy to get confused when choosing a flat screen Tv because of the terminology used to review their features. Although individual manufacturers have coined terms for their own features and innovations, there are many business accepted terms. Here's a glossary of some of the main terms you'll come across.

Hdtv - High Definition Television. This offers twice the resolution or clarity of a general display. The image is crystal clear and has surround sound in covenant disc quality.

Aspect Ratio - The shape of the screen. Tv programmes and Dvds are ready in distinct sizes. Widescreen Tvs will display older programmes in 4:3 (the original Tv screen shape) and black bars appear at the side (letterboxed). Movies are shot in 16:9 and fit best into wide screens. Today's flat screen Tvs are able to display pictures in a collection of aspect ratios.

Resolution - The estimation of photograph quality. Also called Progressive Scan. It is measured in pixels: the more pixels, the higher the quality. Terms like "720p" or "1080p"  refer to the horizontal amount of pixels. The "p" stands for Progressive Scan.

Refresh Rate - The amount of frames played per second. Referred to in hertz e.g. 60Hz or  120Hz. The higher the refresh rate, the smoother attractive pictures appear.

Response Time - The time it takes for pixels to switch between black and white. Measured in milliseconds e.g. 6ms, 8ms, the lower the response time the smoother the picture.

Hdmi - High-Definition Multimedia Interface. Ports for connecting multimedia devices such as Dvd and Blu-Ray players, computers, games consoles and set top boxes.

Summary

Bigger isn't all the time better. measure your room, find the best location for your Tv, and ask a showroom salesperson for advice on size and type of screen best suited to your needs, and buy the best Tv you can for your budget.

On the left side we only find the charger plug while the right side holds the dedicated camera key, lock slide, volume rocker and voice command. On top we find power key, microUsb port and the 3.5mm acceptable audio jack while the lowest only holds the lanyard eyelet. The back of the display holds the 8Mpx camera with dual Led flash and the loudspeaker.

Remove the battery cover and you see a 1300mAh which gives the Nokia 701 impressive battery times: 17 hours of talk time(7 in 3G), 23 days of stand by time,3 days of music playback, 9 hours of video playback, over 6 hours of video recording, 3 hours of video calling and 11 hours of navigation(courtesy of Nokia Maps).Under the battery you find the microSd card slot while the Sim card can be accessed without removing the battery.

The Nokia 701 will be powered by a 1Ghz Cpu with 512 Mb of Ram and will run Symbian Belle. It will also highlight Nfc technology. Since the power is a lot more than Symbian is used to the Nokia 701 is very fast and responsive. The Symbian Belle brings a new homescreen and menu, updated apps and a new polished interface. It also brings 6 homescreens with personel wallpapers that you can add or delete. Widgets can be re-sized and you can even put shortcuts on the homescreen.

Another big change is the addition of a pull down menu similar to Android's announcement area. This is where you will find all the notifications and toggles for movable data,Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and silent mode. The Menu has also been changed and it gets good functionality and it's more easy to use, though it's not as convenient as other Os menus. The task employer remains the same.

Nokia 701 has an 8Mpx camera with fixed focus and dual Led flash. It has a new interface but the changes are mostly cosmetic. It offers a lot of scenes, Flash modes and other options like face detection, self timer, settings(Iso, white balance and others) and geotagging. Photo capability is good though images tend to be over-sharpened. Information estimate is fullness and even low light pictures look good. Video recording is done at 720p @ 30fpswith stereo sound. capability is also great.

The browser has a new interface and improved usability but nothing groundbreaking. It also has text reflow support, flash maintain and Kinetic scroll. Over all the browser palpate is good, zooming is fluid and there are no page breaks. Also Nokia claims that the browser on Symbian Belle is three times faster than the one on Anna.

In terms of connectivity Nokia 701 offers it all: quad-band Gsm/Gprs/Edge maintain and five-band 3G maintain with Hspa (14.4Mbps download and 5.76Mbps upload), Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0, Usb with On-The-Go support, Fm Transmitter, Nfc and audio jack that can be used as a Tv-out.

Despite the fact that the Nokia 701 isn't very impressive in terms of hardware(except for the screen which is certainly impressive) it has more than enough features for the Symbian Belle to run very smooth and fast. It might not be a flagship but it leads the way of the new generation of Symbian devices.
